October in Montreal: 6 Ideas to Make the Most of Fall

, - Vanessa Halasz - October 2, 2026

Fall in Montreal always seems to go by far too quickly. Between the colourful leaves, local markets, apple picking, scenic walks, and Halloween just around the corner, October is probably one of the best months to get outside and enjoy everything the region has to offer.

Whether you’re looking for a family activity, a date idea, or simply an excuse to get out of the house, here are a few ideas for your next weekend.

🍎 Go apple picking… while there’s still time!
Less than an hour from Montreal, several orchards in the Montérégie and Lower Laurentians continue offering pick-your-own apples throughout October. In Mont-Saint-Hilaire, some orchards combine apple picking with cider, homemade products, small farm animals, and beautiful fall scenery.

🍁 Watch Montreal change colours.
You don’t need to leave the city to enjoy the show. A walk through Mount Royal Park up to the lookout is a classic that’s especially worth it in the fall. Montreal is also considered a great destination for enjoying the fall colours without having to travel very far.

🎃 Get into the Halloween spirit.
Several Halloween-themed activities take place throughout Montreal in October. For example, a pumpkin-decorating workshop will be held at Place des Montréalaises on October 24, along with many other family-friendly activities at libraries and cultural venues across the city.

☕ Spend a day being a “tourist in your own city.”
Put on a cozy sweater, grab a coffee, and take a walk through Old Montreal and the Old Port. The historic streets, waterfront, and architecture take on a completely different atmosphere at this time of year.

🥐 Plan a foodie outing.
Stop by Jean-Talon Market, pick up a few seasonal Quebec products, visit a local bakery, or discover a new spot in Little Italy. Sometimes, the best outings are the simplest ones.

🚗 And why not hit the road?
For the ultimate fall day, head outside Montreal and take in the changing colours. Several destinations less than two hours from the city offer the perfect combination of hiking, beautiful scenery, charming villages, and great local food.

🏡 Enjoy Where You Live

Real estate isn’t just about a property, square footage, or the number of bedrooms. It’s also about a neighbourhood, a community, and a lifestyle.

So this month, take the opportunity to get outside, discover somewhere new, and appreciate everything Montreal and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Have a wonderful October—and most importantly, enjoy the fall colours while they last! 🍁
